Privacy Policy

The short version: Booxne does not sell your data. We do not use advertising. Your reading data stays on your device and in your personal iCloud account. We collect the minimum necessary to make the app work.

1. Who We Are

Booxne ("the App", "we", "us", "our") is an iOS application for tracking reading, managing personal book libraries and setting reading goals. Booxne is operated as an independent developer. For any privacy-related questions, contact us at: privacy@booxne.com

2. Data We Collect

Booxne is designed with a privacy-first approach. Here is exactly what data is collected and why:

  • Reading data you create: Books you add, reading statuses, progress, ratings, notes and reading goals. This data is stored locally on your device and synced to your personal iCloud account if you have iCloud enabled. We do not have access to this data.
  • In-App Purchase data: When you purchase Booxne Pro, Apple processes the transaction. We receive only a confirmation that a valid purchase was made (via StoreKit). We do not receive your payment details, credit card information or Apple ID.
  • Push notification token: If you enable reading reminders, a device notification token is stored locally on your device only. We do not maintain a server-side database of notification tokens.
  • Crash reports: If the app crashes, Apple may send anonymized crash logs to us via Xcode Organizer. These contain no personally identifiable information.
  • Book search: When you search for books, queries are sent to the Google Books API and Open Library API. These third-party services have their own privacy policies. We do not store your search queries.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect your name, email address or any contact information unless you contact us directly.
  • We do not collect your location.
  • We do not use advertising or analytics SDKs.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites.
  • We do not sell, rent or share your personal data with third parties for commercial purposes.
  • We do not have access to your reading library data.

4. iCloud Sync

If you have iCloud enabled on your device, your reading data (books, progress, goals, notes) is synced to your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit framework. This data is stored in your private iCloud database and is governed by Apple's iCloud Terms and Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your iCloud data. You can disable iCloud sync at any time in the app settings or in your iPhone Settings → Apple ID → iCloud.

5. In-App Purchases

Booxne offers a one-time lifetime purchase called "Booxne Pro" processed entirely by Apple via StoreKit. We do not process payments directly. We do not store any payment or financial information. All purchases are subject to Apple's terms and conditions. For refund requests, please contact Apple Support directly.

6. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party APIs to provide book search and discovery features:

When you search for books, your search query is sent to these services. We recommend reviewing their privacy policies for more information.

7. Data Retention

All reading data you create in Booxne is stored locally on your device and/or in your personal iCloud account. It remains there until you delete it yourself or uninstall the app. We do not maintain any server-side database of user data.

8. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access: You can access all your data directly within the app.
  • Right to rectification: You can edit your data at any time within the app.
  • Right to erasure: You can delete all your data by deleting the app. You can also delete your iCloud data from iPhone Settings.
  • Right to portability: Booxne Pro users can export their full library as JSON or CSV at any time.

9. Children's Privacy

Booxne is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately at privacy@booxne.com.

10. Security

We take security seriously. Since all your data is stored on your device and synced via Apple's encrypted iCloud infrastructure, your data benefits from Apple's industry-leading security measures. We do not operate any backend servers that store user data, which means there is no central database that could be breached.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
